The Pursuit of Happiness

Are you stressed up often with your job load? Are you having trouble in clearing your to-do list? Do you work longer than you supposed to be and yet, always find it hard to clear everything?

PROBABLY, you are in trouble.

In order to come out with the best year end topic, I’ve done some researchs on something different than we normally talk about here, which is YOUR LIFE.

I mean it seriously, make sure you click on every of the links provided below for further readings.

Let’s talk about life, get back to the questions above.

It is normal I’d say, even I myself have it sometimes. In the beginning of pursuing your career indeed is a challenge. You are not clear if this is the right choice, and even you do, you are not sure if you can really deliver, so you go extra miles and end up stressed up because you are not organized.

How about those of you who already have an established career? You will have other worries, including your delivery, the fear of under-performing; your commitments make you weak for changes and stuff.

I’ve discovered a list of good articles worth reading with insights of establishing a balance, happy and well-planned life; let’s start by looking into the list now.

#1 – Establish happiness in your work

I’ve spoke to youngsters who just joined the employment market, looking for the best career that suit them most; and some of the elder generations whom already have an established career, yet finding themselves not really happy with the job.

Here’s the dilemma. We have too much to ask, expectations that nearly hard to be fulfilled.

My understanding of this article: there’s no perfect job for anyone in the market, but often you have to go and try those that come across. Magnify what makes you happy in work, and be grateful about it.

#2 – Utilize your time effectively after work

This part is about the self-fulfillment, and I do like this article very much. In fact not only after work, it is proven that you will stay sharp and energized if you are given challenging tasks, this I mean your work.

My understanding of this article: you have to stay away from your comfort zone. Many things you can do after work, but TV is definitely not my choice (in fact I stopped for quite some years, only football). You may not agree, but trust me, when you got to learn something new either during or after working hours, it energizes your life.

#3 – Clear your to-do list right now

First time I heard about Chronic Non-Finisher (CNF) and I was horrified because I’m one of them. You see, to-do list is important because you have a lot to remember as your job requirement.

The problem is, the longer your list is, possible the more lost you are. My case was similar. When I entered the company, I had nothing much in my daily to-do list, so my imagination can run wild and I can really think about what I want to do for the company to grow the business.

As time goes by, what I’ve planned to execute requires a lot of tiny stuff, and all of them are listed in the to-do list, so in a way, these tiny stuff distracted myself from what I supposed to focus on.

My understanding of this article: you have to clear your to-do list, organize them or better to delegate them to your team (if you have one) and stay focus. Be clear on your goals, and drive towards it without any distractions.

#4 – Rest enough to conquer the next day

I never sleep earlier than 1am since I was 15. But since I started to work, I started to realize that sleeping is so much important for a fresh mind the next day. Obviously youngsters like me don’t like to sleep early, but after realizing the importance of it, I plan my sleeping hours. Well, the plan is raw and may sound nonsense to you so I chose to skip it.

My understanding of this article: sleep enough if you don’t want to see yourself become fat, nasty and dumb (straight forward enough, right?).

#5 – Limit yourself in everything you do

Well, the title may make you obsessed, but the whole idea is to express the importance of limitation in life. Before I wrote this article, I had a long pause in blogging because in a way I was lost of direction.

You see, you have so many things to do yet so little time you have, how are you going to finish them? At the end of the day, you can’t finish any of them.

This article is for those who have a lot of interests yet don’t have enough time to pursuit all of them, limitation can be another way worth trying.

Before I end this post, I would like to stress it again that the articles that I linked with this post are those I liked and provided me some insights. Happiness is a very subjective word and everyone has their own way to perceive it. No right or wrong, and I welcome any comments or you may
email me
straight to share your thoughts.

Alright, I should end this post with season greetings to everyone who reads My1stPath.com. Thanks for the support along the journey and may you and your family have a great Christmas and New Year 2008.

Signing off,
Jason

This is a good sharing! the first time I heard of “Pursuit of Happiness” is through a movie by Will Smith with the “i” spelled as “y”. After watching the movie, it reminds me that Happiness is in our own hand.

Most of the time, we expect ppl to give us Happiness but it does not work that way.

Having a happy and satisfying career comes from yourself. You need to be aware of yourself and improve your own area to suits your career path.

Many jobseekers expect the company, the boss, the colleague to give them a career and they sit and complain of others but never ask the question of “Is there anything I need to do to improve myself, etc” Through our experience many candidates will blame rather reflect.

You will have a brigth Path Jason.. Go Go Jason! Hope your 2008 will be fruitful.
