Attitude Counts

It’s another month gone by, my time to write about something again. If you’re waiting, sorry for being late.

Before I introduce the topic for this month, allow me to do a little bit wrap up for the posts that we’ve shared last month, October 2007.

I was thinking, how do you feel when you find out that you’ve been misjudged? Yes, I’m talking about the post by our new Path Tracker, MJ. This is a very interesting topic to talk about, because I’d say no one have never judged a person before, and believe me, misjudgment happens.

I still remember my senior told me a quote (he was a little bit rude-kind-of-person), it goes this way: “assumption is the mother of all f**k offs”, which he was proven right, or maybe the quote was proven right. Still remember Paul Potts? Look at his face, smiling but looks like crying (according to my friends not me) but everyone was stoned once he started singing, what a live example.

We often spelling the sentence “don’t judge a book by its cover”, how many of us really practice it? So, what is that about judging people? Perhaps it is because we usually presume something based on our own experience, and experiences cannot be proven right or wrong anytime, so we go along with our belief, and this build our characteristic, which ends up became our attitude towards some specific topics.

Thanks to Eileen for her valuable sharing and PK too for his constructive comment. This is blog for me, we share and here we urge you to contribute to the issues that we truly care about, indirectly we’re helping those who need these insights.

I’ve seen so many examples out there; job market is like a battle field now for career seekers. Did you realize the inflation rate in the country? Subsidy for petrol is fading away and salary rate is as low as usual, this reflects the imbalance of the market, where demand is greater than supply, so it is either you fight for that, or you sunk and move on, no one is irreplaceable for companies, realize that.

But look back at the candidates that you’ve interviewed, or your friends’ experience, the way they yell at you that A, B or C companies never appreciate their talent, etc? Recall that. Have you been misjudged? Or you’re giving the opportunity to others to judge you? I’d say it’s about the attitude, too.

How important is attitude? Let see the way Lim Goh Tong succeeded, a meaningful article by Zul. Any idea how he became the most successful entrepreneur in Malaysian history? It is about his attitude, I’d say. Lot more questions to ask when we talk about attitude. Who are you to impress the employers or recruiters? Sometimes we forgot to check ourselves before we say that people are not appreciating us, you are not wrong, but complaining will not get you anywhere.

I have to tag SH for her remarkable article comparing contract and permanent job offer. More and more companies are offering contractual offers now and many out there are not prepared, because of their mindset, and the attitude, again. This comes back to the security that career seekers are looking for, but can you tell how long you will stay in your current employment? I bet if you have an answer.

This is the reason we don’t share typical career article like: How to impress employer at the first interview, how to do this, how to do that… Because we’re standing at the same standpoint as you. So we discuss deeper, which is more about our career life.

Now you got the point, I think. Yes, this month we’re going to talk about attitude. The dream topic ends with AnTien’s thoughtful article; it is time for us to move on.

Do you have anything to share about attitude? Email me. I’m on my way planning for our first year end topic; let’s try to make it a little bit different. Please tell me by comment about any topics you might feel interested.

We’re about to welcome year 2008, what is your plan ahead? How much you’ve accomplished for your 2007 plan?

Ok, let’s keep something for next sharing. See you soon.

Yours,
Jason

Totally agree…Attitude is the key words! to share something with you guy, Im working in a established travel agency as HRM and I’ve lots of chance to interview candidates and their attitudes is sucks (sorry to use this words..)they not even prepared for the interview session and they’re not impressing the interviewer (that’s me!). We should’nt judge poeple by its apperance (how they dress, how they look?) but at least passion on the work / job they are applying for..right? So, there’s no mis-judge elements in this issue. For those job seekers, please put your passion and enthusiam on your career, this will help you for your career growth (if you’re looking for career development)

No right or wrong, and I’d say sometimes people asked to be judged in a way like:

    (1) the way you carry yourself, you should know how.
    (2) the way you react on certain things, you should know how.
    (3) the way you sell yourself, you MUST learn how.

For me personal branding is important, at least you should know how to dress because by all means, people still like beautiful things.

I like the way ideas and writings are shared in this website; they come from different sort of writers’ own experience and personal insights. They are not typical articles that bore people to death.

I don’t mind reading any topic that can improve ourselves as long as it comes from the writer’s own touch and personality.
